3/31/15 - Free workshops: Support for Smaller Agencies and Disadvantaged Communities: Developing Effective Active Transportation Projects and Programs

 

The Local Government Commission is offering a series of workshops intended to provide technical assistance to smaller agencies and disadvantaged communities to support development of impactful active transportation plans, programs and projects that can successfully compete for Active Transportation Project funding. The focus will be on the elements that make for a high quality bicycle or pedestrian plan, project, or program.

3/19/15 - New Report by California Institute for Rural Studies: "The Status of Farm Labor Housing And the Health of Workers"

 

A new report put out by the California Institute for Rural Studies, written by the Institute's Founder & Director Emeritus, Don Villarejo, outlines the current status of farm worker housing and health in the US. Regions discussed include California, Washington, Oregon, Texas, Florida, and North Carolina.

Oakland Veg Week is a week-long event taking place at different venues around Oakland from April 19th to 26th, encouraging a switch to a vegetable-rich diet. Movies, speakers, food tastings, and music will be happening, inviting the community to discover the many personal and global benefits of plant-based foods.

3/2/15 - New report: Mapping Opportunity in California's San Joaquín Valley

 

The UC Davis Center For Regional Change has produced a new report for the Sierra Health Foundation titled "Mapping Opportunity in California's San Joaquín Valley". Using data and analyses from the Regional Opportunity Index, the report provides a review of the current status of inequities faced by San Joaquín Valley residents.
